OUGD501 - Study Task One - Design & Authorship.

How does Death of the Author relate to Graphic Design

Roland Barthes says in his essay The Death of the Author "The birth of the reader must be at the cost of the death of the Author". To a certain extent, I approve of this assertion. When linking to graphic design, the Author, with respect to text, is like an interpreter of history/culture, or like a designer that communicates text to visual (analogously, ideas) and merges them together. One message can be interpreted differently by different people, reflecting back to the reader interpreting their own understanding of a message, even if the designer/author thought differently.
